Provider reviewing a treatment plan at Allied Medical Aesthetics

Your First Botox® Appointment: What to Expect, Step by Step

A first Botox® appointment usually takes about 30 minutes, the injections themselves take only a few minutes, and most people go right back to their day. If you are a little nervous, that is completely normal. Here is what happens at each step at Allied Medical Aesthetics in Westminster.

Before your visit

  • Plan ahead: results take up to two weeks to settle, so book at least two weeks before an event.
  • Limit bruising risk: for several days beforehand, avoid alcohol and, only if your doctor approves, limit blood thinners and supplements such as aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oil and vitamin E.
  • Arrive with clean skin: skip makeup and heavy products on the treatment area.
  • Share your health history: tell us about medications, recent procedures, pregnancy or breastfeeding, and any medical conditions.

Step 1: Your consultation

Your injector will ask what bothers you, look at how your face moves and explain what Botox® can and can't do. This is the time to say how much movement you want to keep. Many first-time clients prefer a softer, natural result, and that is our approach. You'll get a clear plan and price before anything begins. Consultations are free for new patients.

Step 2: Preparing the skin

Your provider cleanses the area and may mark injection points. Some clients like a cold pack to make things more comfortable.

Step 3: The injections

Using a very fine needle, your injector places small amounts of Botox® into specific muscles. Most people describe a quick pinch or a mosquito-bite feeling. A typical treatment of the forehead, frown lines and crow's feet takes just a few minutes.

Step 4: Right after treatment

You may see small bumps where the injections went in; they usually fade within an hour. Mild redness or a small bruise is possible. You can drive yourself home and return to work.

Aftercare for the first 24 hours

  • Stay upright for about four hours.
  • Don't rub or massage the treated areas.
  • Skip strenuous exercise, saunas and hot tubs for 24 hours.
  • Hold off on facials or other aggressive treatments until your provider clears you.

When you'll see results

Changes may begin in a few days, with full results at about 10 to 14 days. If anything feels uneven, a follow-up at two weeks lets your provider fine-tune.
